For the third consecutive year, General Motors of Canada has given its "Retailer of the Year" award to northwest Regina's Capital GMC Buick Cadillac Ltd.

It sold more new and Optimum used vehicles than any other GMC dealership in Canada ? no mean feat considering Capital and its employees were up against dealerships in much larger markets.

"I feel wonderful!" said Capital's president, Bruce Axelson, late Wednesday morning after his firm received its award. "I don't think anybody's ever done that before.""It's a credit to our customers, it really is. We've got an incredible network of customers who have been so loyal to us for so many years that it's phenomenal," he said, adding, "I can't think there is a better staff around than our staff."

Being located in a region with a healthy economy doesn't hurt, but Axelson, who started working in a car dealership in Prince Albert when he was still in high school, says there's more to it than that, pointing out "there are lots of car dealers in a similar economy".

"We totally try to respect everybody's time and we try to make it fun to be doing business with us, whether it's buying a car or servicing a car. We really try to be respectful of people."
